Virtual sketchcrawl - Trees dressed up for the holidays

I did this one last Saturday, in an unexpected sunbreak.

It's a tree in my neighbor's front yard, which he dolled up something special for the season.  I stood on his parking strip, and we had a long-distance conversation between the street and his porch.  (And then he waited patiently until I'd finished, so he could come out and rake up his leaves.)

While I was there a hummingbird - a male Anna's - came to investigate the tree, probing every single ornament, in hopes it was a flower or a feeder.  And then flew away in a huff.

Then, this morning I braved the iffy weather, dodging both rain and other people, and walked down to Pioneer Courthouse Square to sketch the tree.

I haven't been downtown in ages.  The number of empty storefronts is scary.  And these colorful circles are painted in the square and on the surrounding sidewalks.  I assume that they're social distancing markers.

Vista Bridge sketchcrawl

I wasn't very hopeful of actually sketching outside at this past Saturday sketchcrawl....but it didn't turn out to be as bad as I expected. Finding a stretch of sidewalk under some dense foliage gave me enough of a dry spot to attempt the Vista Bridge view.

A few dots and blotches of rain water but the city view under the bridge was framed nicely by the arching supports of the bridge.

After the first sketch I tried to get a more realistic view of the traffic using this busy road from downtown to Route 26.

Sketching at the Chinese Garden

There's still free entry today to the Chinese Garden if you bring a can of food.

I went there on Thursday and Friday during my lunch break.  Had some sun both days. Three other urban sketchers that I know of went too.

My Own Little Sketch Crawl

As I so often have work on the days everyone is off having fun, sketching up the town, I have to make up my own little sketchy days. This past Monday was one such day. Just a couple of landscape sketches from the day and one little sketch I did today while I was waiting for the oil to be changed in my car. Hope to see you all soon!

WW Sketchcrawl: Bastille Day

We want to let our Urban Sketcher friends in Santo Domingo know that we were thinking of you as we sketched today. We met some potential future Urban Sketcher members and also several of the people who modeled for us (whether or not they knew it at the time).

Here's today's group, ...

...here are some of our sketches...

and here are some of the racing waiters, who were too quick for most of us (although not for Katura).

We'll post our sketches later. In the meantime, happy sketching from us to you!
