From Maria:
We had a perfect summer evening for sketching people, buildings, and the happening scene at the Rainbow Road Plaza on Ankeny Street.
It was a great day for sketching. Granted, it was overcast and a little subdued, but that meant we weren't baking in the sun. While some of us did the nearby architecture and some of us trooped off to do the nearest crow sculpture, it seemed that most of us did the river. With half turning left to do the Hawthorne Bridge, and the rest turning right to do the Marquam.
Join us for the next SE Sketch at the Ankeny Rainbow Road Plaza on Monday, August 17, from 5 to 7 pm. The rainbow plaza is always fun and a great place to sketch people, buildings, and food. Good food options available. Right on the bike lane with plenty of bike parking. Multiple buses stop nearby. The plaza is a pedestrian zone located at 2720 SE Ankeny Street.
It was crazy, it was a party. Actually, it was a wake. People writing remembrances on the wall, and confiding them to strangers. A man singing opera on the spiral staircase, another perched on a wall in the food court, pecking out poems on an old-fashioned typewriter. The few stores still open were having deep sales, trying to get rid of their inventory. And I have no idea where the line for carmel corn ended. The rink was filled with skaters, some in costume and some with soap bubble guns. The mall walkers were dancing through. And everyone else walked aimlessly around, drinking in their very last visit to this mall.
