Penninsula Park, Part of Sunday Parkways

Hi,  once in a blue moon I get out to a sketching event. Had a good time at PenninsulaPark  and Sunday Parkways. Good time meeting and talking to sketchers that get there more often than me.  I'll try to get to Cathedral Park next month.

Playground Duty

I was on after school duty last week with the munchkins.  The weather was so out of the ordinary - like an early summer!  I sat on the parents bench in front of the monkey bars and sketched a couple days.  This was at Ainsworth Grade School. ~ Carrie

Room 4 -2 in NW and Portlandia

I had a bloody mary inside the Nobby while sketching this. There was room in my sketch book for two of them - couldn't see the third from the window.  Also used the little houses up the street on Johnson for my background.

This is from a couple Saturdays ago when everyone was at Keller fountain and then headed up to Portland Farmers Market.  I went up the escalator but the guard saw me.  She was very nice and I left in short order.  added color later.

These are miniature roses, the little bottle/vase is only 4 inches tall.

Stood by the benches in Chapman Square and sketched elk statue.  Added a little color the next day.

Random Scavenger Items

My Excuse is 'Scavenger Thursday"

      Went to a really great figure demonstration at OSA today with Craig Srebnik.  He paints in oil but his approach is so universal to any opaque media.  Afterwards headed over to the Leaky Roof on SW 17th and Jefferson for Lunch and libations to fulfill yet another scavenger hunt item...... A Beer! A Mirror Pond, to be more specific.  We sketched away taking full advantage of our model, Loretta!  What a trooper she is. :) !!  It's going to be a warm sunny weekend so I ought to knock a few more off the  scavenger list; stay tuned.

Mid Week Farmers Market

     Wednesdays Farmers Market is on in the South Park Blocks close to the Portland Art Museum.  I saw the sign yesterday while I went to see Rothko. Decided to come back this morning to do my first Scavenger Sketch.  One down and a bunch to go!

Hi, haven't been out much but on rainy mornings I'm perfectly happy sketching the living room, especially someone else's living room. I seem to revert to wonky angles anytime I do a drawing like this, I should have tried to at least maintain horizontal.    Ink drawing (Pitt Pen) with watercolor.

We all met in front of the Little River Cafe right in front of all kinds of river worthy craft just waiting for some warm weather and today we had it.  I saw Alanna and Kalina at a large table scanning the view. Deb showed up right after me then Vicky and Linda.  There was just so much going on and so much to draw, we all thought we could sketch here for a month.  I got a few I'm happy with. Thanks for looking.

Turned out Vicky new this couple that had leaned their bikes against the tree so I added their names under their sketch.  Pretty soon the rest of our group will add their sketches and drawings so come back soon.

Travel on the Yellow Line

It so happened last week prior to the yellow Line sketch crawl, I had an appointment on N. Mississippi St. and decided it would be a nice change to go by light rail.  I got off on the Prescott stop, one beyond Overlook Park.  Skidmore goes over I-5 and another couple blocks or so you are at Prost and the Mississippi Food Carts.  I had given myself a little extra time to have a brew and sketch on a sunny afternoon.

The Hills Are Alive~ Fog and Rain

My view of the West Hills today over the Goose Hollow neighborhood was pretty lack luster but it begged a little attention. Hope your Valentines day was sweet and red.  Carrie (Blog)

Portland Sketchers Crawl Around Union Station

Symposium sparked increased membership in Portland - Lots of local talent

Here we are Sunday morning on a break at Laughing Planet.  We were up on the Foot Bridge to the right of the station for a couple hours.  After lunch some of us continued sketching around Union Station and met back near the entrance to share sketch books. Sketching at the Lone Fir Cemetery

I spent the major part of Saturday at The Lone Fir Cemetery in SE Portland. Some regular sketch crawlers  arrived just before 10 am and fanned out for a couple hours till they met at the Soldiers Monument to show their results. Celeste, Dave and I took a lunch break and returned for fresh inspiration. I abandoned the larger format morning watercolor for sketchbook and some simple observation.  The afternoon brought many more visitors to different plots, path groomers and grounds keepers; then volunteers with tables, fliers, and such  for the evenings festivities. We were approached by a volunteer tour guide willing to share his historical knowledge and photos from his research over the last decade, probably the same info Kalina picked up from one of the monthly tours.   The Lone Fir Cemetery website is worth a look; lots of info on the self guided tour and  zip files you can download to your computer.  You can enter between Stark and Morrison on 26th,  open 365 days a year.Thank you Kalina for setting the date and place to sketch Saturday. I hope everyone else will be adding their sketches. The sketch above was completed with watercolor, elegant writer and an old stick dipped into a bottle of ink.

On the Bluff Over Oregon City

Willamette Falls and Locks were behind us, looking this direction you could float the river right through Portland if you had a few hours (or more) and a canoe.It's 26 miles from the 'Falls' Where the Willamette River empties into the Columbia. Portland is about halfway, quite a fun experience. This sketch is a medium point Pitt pen and watercolor.

Portland - Downtown and Around

Summer's here, break out the Tevas.  I know a few folks who wear these sandals year 'round.
