This week has been busy for me so I haven't had a chance to scan and post these from our local sketching groups' meet up with Pete Scully visiting from Davis CA.
It was a pretty wet day and I did attempt a few outside sketches but I was forced to be inside for some of that day. These are my attempt (or some may say my non-attempt) at sketching fellow sketchers at Floyds in the morning meet up and Old Town Pizza for lunch.
On one of my outside excursions I did this quick sketch of the Skidmore Fountain ....always a favorite subject (another sketch was a start of a panorama of the Portland skyline seen from under the Burnside Bridge....to be shown later when completed).
It was great to meet you again Pete and share a wet Portland day with you.....and thanks for the kind remarks on your blog about our 'sweet' Portland rain.

Portland Workshop with Marc and Shari
I thought I would share my work with everyone and hope others will do the same - I had a great time the past 3 days with Shari, Marc and all the Urban Sketchers - quite a talented group. Thanks to everyone for sharing and especially Linda for helping orchestrate the visit with our friends from Montreal. I learned quite a lot, made some friends along the way and saw wonderful Portland in a completely new way. I also have a new found appreciation for the demands of plein-air work in hot weather and look forward to making art with all of you in the future. Cheers, Don

Skidmore Fountain
I am starting to feel right at home sketching at the Skidmore Fountain, as I have ended up there several times with sketching groups this summer. Each time I have a stronger urge to try it again. Also, I never tire of seeing the different interpretations of the area by various sketchers.
This is my most recent attempt. I painted the fountain on the spot, then did the background and the foreground figure in my studio. I rarely finish a sketch in one sitting, but then I enjoy taking my time, so I guess that's okay.

Skidmore Fountain in Old Town
Just a few clouds yesterday, no showers - headed downtown and did a little watercolor sketch of the Skidmore fountain. Named after one of the early residents of Portland, Fountain in his name is where early Portland residents watered their horses prior to the turn of the century. Fountain is located just a block from the waterfront next to the West side of the Burnside bridge.
