Tilikum Crossing and a Seattle Sketcher

While Ali was in Seattle and ran into sketchers, we had a Seattle sketcher in our midst on Saturday. Seattle Urban Sketcher, Kay Tyllia was in Portland for the Aim at Melanoma walk that was in the same vicinity as our sketchcrawl.  Here is a photo of Kay and another of her sketch.

I had a lovely time Saturday morning, but I did a lot of things besides sketching.  I skipped lunch in order to finish adding the watercolor to my sketch. That's Mike on the left, who spent the whole time standing and sketching!

I squeezed in a visit to the Skin Care Conference and got some good tips and free samples of sunscreen. I also got this bag that I think is perfect for a sketcher with a Draw2C blog.

A Beautiful Day for Sketching at Tilikum Crossing

We had a good turnout for today's sketch crawl, with 19 people, by my count.  There's a lot to draw in this area and the diversity of sketches reflects that. It's always so fun to see the variety of techniques, materials, and viewpoints when we share our sketches. I always get new ideas with the 'throw-down."

Outside and Inside Sketching

It may look like I'm getting the jump on next month's Tilikum Crossing sketch crawl, but actually, I was just out enjoying our somewhat sunny day on Monday. It was my first time walking over our newest bridge. Afterwards, we got coffee at Elephants on the west side and I sketched the view from there. I'm eager to come back next month because the sketching possibilities look great.

Here's my sketch from last Saturday's sketch crawl at Union Station. If you were one of the two dozen or so people who came out for this, you might realize that this sketch was black and white when we shared sketchbooks.  I added the watercolor at home. If you're one of the sketchers shown here, please excuse me for taking liberties with your appearance as they were unintentional. It was a fun sketch crawl and it was great to have so many people join in the sketching and then the lunch and sketchbook sharing.

This last sketch was made at f&b, the cafe inside Rejuvenation Hardware. I took liberties with these people, too, adding a beard on the barista and combining parts of other people for the customer. Those were intentional coverups to fix mistakes made trying to draw quickly moving people.

Tilikum Crossing

Was delighted to give a quick high-five to some of my fellow sketchers at OMSI before strolling over the new Tilikum Crossing with the toddler in tow. It's a truly lovely bridge, with gorgeous viewpoints--and thoughtfully-designed wide spots for standing and taking in the scenery, hurrah.

The kiddo and I collaborated on this sketch while considering whether it would be worthwhile to wait for a train to cross back over the tracks--all the transit was pretty crowded, so we just walked back over. Amazing how quiet and restful a bridge can be with no automobile traffic!
