sketching on a sunny day

There are few things better than getting to sketch shadows when the sun shines in Portland.
Had an excellent view of these two homes on NW Glisan last Friday.

A variety of Graphik pens,  Pentel pocket brush, and white Gel pen

Watercolor and new white Gel pen
I have started to take a moment before beginning a sketch to write down some notes on what is important that I want to capture in the sketch. Hence the notes at the bottom of the first sketch.

This idea is taken from a book on drawing....."Looking and thinking are the initial stages of a drawing, not mark making.
...A drawing cannot be about everything, so thinking what it is not about often clarifies one's intentions."
