Sketching in downtown Vancouver, WA

Hi Sketchers,

I was at Ester Short Park in Vancouver, WA this afternoon and thought I'd send a few pics of the area.
Fantastic park with a gazebo, clock tower ( that chimes!) and beautiful gardens. Most weekends there's a farmers market, not as big as the one in Portland , so plenty of room to move around. I hope you consider checking this area for a future crawl soon!

SketchCrawl - Pearl District

I've started posting Symposium wrap-up at my own blog. Those posts as well as a copy of this one are at http://www.geminica.com.

The Portland Urban Sketchers have been more interested in Portland's Northwest neighborhoods since the Symposium, so we met up this morning at Pearl Baking, NW 9th & Couch.  We stopped in the North Park Blocks to draw the elephant...

North Park Blocks - Elephant
I wish I hadn't drawn the frame, or had drawn it to the left - the elephant would be better on the right side of the frame.

Then we went for more coffee at Floyd's - there continues to be a lot to discuss as we all absorb our experiences at the Symposium and go through resulting changes in our practices! - and afterwards stopped at Hoodoo Antiques to draw this scene...

These were drawn in the sketchbooks donated to symposium participants by Legion Paper; a new product to be released this month, Stonehenge Wired.  The 90 lb paper is nice and sturdy, takes Lamy Safari fountain pen without feathering, and holds up well to watercolors - I'm liking it.

Sat Aug 8th USk PDX Sketchcrawl

As I sketched this scene, a parade of people in these motorized wheel chairs passed me in all directions, sometimes as many as 3 at a time. Each one was unique in how it had been customized toward the needs of the owner. They're pretty fast, so I had to sketch fast to get an impression. One man came by a couple of times and I was able to add a bit each time.

At our two meetups, I was able to do quick sketches of two of our members. Sorry, Kalina and Deb, I meant to offense by the poor likenesses.

The power of Urban Sketchers!

"Arty" wrote: The lady in the middle, her name is Abbey (if I am right) saw us sketching outdoors with the Urban Line group lead by Lapin on saturday morning and she immediately got inspired. I introduced her to Alanna so I hope she gets to go to the USK Portland sketching sessions. We invited her to the closing ceremony and here she is...

In the ceremony she told me that after she saw us sketching that morning, she went straight to the art supply store and bought some materials...sweet!!! That's the power of USK!!!!!

"i've been illustrated!" says Kalina.

I was at a family reunion on worldwide sketchcrawl. Not a large turn out but I managed to do get in a couple of sketches of the F-I-L's house decor using the iPad and Brushes app.
