Trees and More Trees

For being an urban environment Portland has a crap ton of trees. I spent an afternoon recently parked in a friend's car chatting and painting a tree line up at Mt. Tabor. On another excursion with my wife, we jetted along I-5 and as we zipped down the highway I tried to sketch as many types of trees as I could on our short journey. It was a fun little exercise. I hope everyone is having a terrific holiday season, and aren't getting too bogged down with the craziness of the season. See you all soon.

  1. I love both of these sketches! The pen and ink version does a great job of really analyzing the distinct "body language" of different tree species, and the watercolor scene has really lovely color and contrast. Bravo.

  2. Thanks! Trees really do have a "body language". I'd like to try this again, maybe stationary not flying down the highway.

  3. During our 'plant ID' class at PCC there was an underground movement of testing our ID prowess on a 50 mile/hr trip on the highway.
Wonderful work, Marco and it brought back some memories.
