Lake Oswego Railroad bridge and Bird's Foot Trefoil

Here's a little sketch I did during a break on a kayaking trip.  I wanted to try to combine the botanical with the urban.  The challenge was to keep the ink sketch simple and open enough so as to not overwhelm the little plant painted on the left.  Although I drew the plant on site, I added the watercolor later.

  1. I like that you combined these two subjects and highlighted the Trefoil while keeping the background b&w.

    1. Thanks, Deb! I kept wanting to add more to the black and white part but in the end thought it best to stick with simplicity.

  2. I love this! I love the Trefoil in the foreground, the bridge, the script, and the tiny kayakers. I love the contrast between the flash of color in the foreground and the simplicity of the background. Great choices. Very, very nice.

  4. You made a delightful mix of the urban and botanical sketching. I like how it tells a story, too, with those little kayakers paddling under the bridge.

    1. Thanks, Vicky! It was fun to try to combine so many of my interests (kayaking, botanical and urban sketching) into one sketch, yet keep it simple enough that I could actually get most of it done during our kayaking break!
