Apple Festival at Portland Nursery

Great crowds of people and families with children descended on Portland Nursery to taste, shop and enjoy all things Apple.
Along with the three other sketchers I was positioned to sketch to very long line of people in the tasting line. We weren't even close to the tasting tables and still the people waited and gathered!

After a while I had had enough of the people sketching and sought out some structure to sketch.

It was a grand day and the sun came out at times to give us some of its warmth....a very good sketching day with Katura, Vicky, and Andrea!

  1. Deb, I really like seeing these again. You are certainly getting those people down! The sketches that you and Katura did really remind me to pay attention to those shadows while we have them.

  2. Giant floating apple: what a fantastic scene you captured there! And the rich indigo-blue shadows on the top sketch, paired with the vivid red linework (red delicious?) is so very striking and festive. Great to see you at the event, and thanks for posting these!

  3. Thank you Vicky and Katura. I enjoyed seeing the finished versions of your sketches also. Always a surprise how we each interpret the same scene!
