Pettygrove Park and the Dreamer

It has been a while since I posted on this blog but the excursion out to Pettygrove Park (designed by Lawrence Halprin) was so much fun I thought it would be worth recording it.

I have been playing around with the watercolor technique (no preliminary sketch) from Marion Rivolier and Norberto Dorantes' technique with non waterproof ink learned at the BCN Symposium.

  1. I like all of these a lot, but especially the ones with washes and inks that bleed. Maybe they seem particularly right in in this wet weather we're having now. I know it was pretty damp when you drew at least one of those, too. These new techniques work so well with your style. They're still recognizable as yours, but with something new, as well.

  2. Deb,
I am sorry I missed this outing. I really like your new styles from BCN.
The last one is my fav! Fun work.

  3. The last watercolor is so neat! The negative space/white of the paper that you left around the gold bits of the statue just GLOWS, it really makes the statue stand out as a radiant metallic shiny thing. Fun to see all these approaches to such a challenging abstract sculpture!

  4. I have to say your positive comments are really a spur to keep me going with this new stuff. I guess it happens that when we try something not our usual style we vacillate on its merits and need to step back and hear others speak out.
    Thank you friends!
